PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pitt State volleyball team lost to Fort Hays State 3-0, 26-24, 25-13, 25-21, on Saturday evening (October 17) at John Lance Arena.

The Gorillas outblocked the Tigers, 8.0 to 3.0, but could not overcome a .049 hitting percentage. Fort Hays State hit .212 for the match and only committed seven errors in the last two sets combined.

Maggie Highberger led the Gorillas with seven kills. Noelle Dooley and Lana DaSilva each had five kills. Erin Wolford led the team with six blocks, two solo and four assisted. Ashlen Schwartz led all players with 19 digs.

Pitt State rallied in the first set, after being down as many as seven at 22-15, the Gorillas fought back to tie the set at 22-22, capitalizing on Tiger hitting errors and blocks by Taylor Unke and Noelle Dooley. The teams were tied at 23 and 24 before FHSU scored the last two points of the set to win 26-24.

The Gorillas alo battled in the third set. After getting down by five, 20-15, the team outscored the Tigers 5-2 to come within one at 22-21. Fort Hays scored the last three points for the 25-21 win in the set.

Pitt State is on the road next week. The team will face Washburn in Topeka, Kan. on Friday and Emporia State on Saturday.
