Volleyball Falls to Emporia State

EMPORIA, Kan. -- In a match very similar to the previous night's match, the Gorillas lost to Emporia State 3-0 (25-16, 31-29, 25-22) on Saturday (October 24) evening in Emporia.

The Gorillas got off to a slow start in the first set, but put up a great fight in the second set. There were 20 ties and seven lead changes in the set. Pitt State went on a run early in the set to take a 12-7 lead, the biggest lead by either team in the set. Emporia State came back to go up 14-13, but the Gorillas came back, regained the lead and went up 19-16 on a service ace by KJ Davis. The teams tied at 20 and 21 before the Hornets took a 23-21 lead. Pitt State called its second time out of the game and fought back once again to tie the game at 23-all. From there the teams tied at every point up to 29, with neither being able to score the final point to win the set until a final kill by the Hornet's Danika Burton ended the set.

Pitt State fared well in the third set also, but came up just short.

The Gorillas hit .204 as a team for the match and only had two fewer kills than the Hornets.

Two Pitt State players recorded double digit kills. Noelle Dooley led all players with 15 kills. Taylor Unke added 11. Lana DaSilva added nine kills. Ashlen Schwartz led all players with 26 digs.

The Gorillas will travel to Lindenwood and Central Missouri for its matches next weekend.
