Volleyball Falls Just Short in 3-1 Loss at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The Pittsburg State volleyball team played a couple close sets, battled back from some large deficits, but came up just short in a 3-1 loss at Lindenwood on Friday (October 30) night.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18. The Gorillas showed fortitude in coming back to win set three after being down 2-0. There were 10 ties and four lead changes in the third set. The Gorillas trailed by two, 22-20, late in the set, but came back and held the Lions at 22 points while going on a five-point run. A kill by Shelbey Baker and two big blocks by Baker and Taylor Unke and Unke and Taylyn Schwartz ended the set with a Gorilla win and forced a fourth set.

In the fourth set, Pitt State trailed by as many as 10 at 21-11, but outscored the home team 7-4 to close the gap and lose by only seven. Noelle Dooley put down three kills in the last seven points to help PSU.

Dooley led the team with 11 kills. Unke added eight kills and also recorded five block assists. Baker recorded seven kills. Ashlen Schwartz again led the team with 22 digs.

Pitt State will take on the nationally ranked Central Missouri Jennies at 4 p.m. on Saturday in Warrensburg.
