DENVER, Colo. — The Pittsburg State University men's basketball team broke open a tight game in the second half to pull away for an 80-62 victory over Regis University Friday (Nov. 27) at the Regis Fieldhouse.
The Gorillas (4-1) led 39-36 at halftime and 49-47 with 13:38 to play before using a 16-5 run to take control against the Rangers (2-3).
Trey Starks led four Pitt State players in double figures with a game-high 24 points, while Josiah Gustafson added 19 points and a team-leading eight rebounds. Lamine Dieng chipped in with 18 points and Dakota Jones finished with 11.
Pitt State made 54.4 percent of its shots, going 31 for 57 from the floor; and the Gorillas were nearly perfect at the free throw line, converting 13 of 14 opportunities.
Regis got 14 points from Dexter Sienko, 11 points from Ryan Beisty and 10 points from Noah King.
The Gorillas will return to action Saturday (Nov. 28) when they travel across town to face Metro State University at 8 p.m. (CST).
