Bench Scoring Important in 68-51 Win at UCO

EDMOND, Okla. -- Mikaela Burgess and Cathy Brugman came off the bench to score 17 points a piece for the Gorillas, as Pitt State earned a 68-51 win over Central Oklahoma on Saturday (Feb. 7) at Hamilton Field House. The Gorilla bench counted for over half of the team's points, and doubled the scoring of the Bronchos bench.

Lizzy Jeronimus also scored in double figures, adding 14 for Pitt State. She also pulled down eight rebounds. Kylie Gafford was just under double figures and short of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. Burgess was hot from long range, hitting five of seven threes on the day, including four in the first half. Brugman and Jeronimus were each 7-for-12 from the floor, with Jeronimus scoring 10 of her points in the first half and Brugman scoring 10 of hers in the second half.

Pitt State trailed early in the game and was down 12-6 with 11:19 left in the first half. The team then went on an 11-0 run, started and capped by threes from Mikaela Burgess. The Gorillas held the Bronchos without a shot from the floor from 12:11 to 5:10, allowing them to go up 19-14. Pitt State outscored the home team 10-4 in the final three minutes of the half to go to the locker room with a 31-22 lead.

Pitt State's defense came into the second half on lock down mode. The Gorillas didn't allow Central Oklahoma a made shot from the floor until the 12:30 mark. During that time the Gorillas put up 19 points and didn't look back from there. The largest lead of the game came on a Burgess three with 13:40 to go, 50-27.

Pitt State will return home for the next four games, starting with a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday, Feb. 12.
