Vogelbaugh's Walkoff Gives Gorillas Split Against Bronchos

PITTSBURG -- Andrew Vogelbaugh belted a walk-off grandslam -- his third home run of the day -- to lift the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a 13-3 run-rule victory over the University of Central Oklahoma Thursday (Apr. 16) and give the Gorillas a split of an MIAA doubleheader.

The Bronchos (17-19, 12-14 MIAA) defeated the Gorillas (14-25, 9-17 MIAA) 6-5 in the opening contest of the four-game series. The two squads will wrap up the series with a 1 p.m. (CDT) twinbill Friday (Apr. 17) at Al Ortolani Field.

Vogelbaugh was 0-for-3 with a walk in the nightcap before blasting UCO relief pitcher Konner Kyser's offering over the leftfield wall to end the game.

The Gorillas made a winner of Jake Stevenson (3-4) in his final start at Al Ortolani Field. Stevenson scattered seven hits over 5 1/3 innings, allowing just two earned runs while fanning five batters.

The Pitt State offense scored two runs in the first and two more in the fifth, before breaking loose for five in the sixth and four more in the seventh.

Andrew Kreiling led the Gorillas' 10-hit attack going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. Derek Hackney also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

In game one, UCO built a 5-1 lead then held on for a 6-5 victory on Pitt State.

Vogelbaugh hit solo homeruns in the second and third innings, while Sam Falcon also drove in a pair of runs.
