PITTSBURG, Kan. --Â The Pittsburg State softball team (30-16) ended its five game losing streak by putting up 28 runs in a doubleheader against Rogers State on Tuesday (April 21) at the PSU Softball Complex.
Pitt State started hitting from the beginning of the game one and put up at least two runs in every inning.
In game one, the Gorillas scored three runs in the first, two in the second three in the third and five in fourth. The team scored 13 runs off 13 hits and one HIllcat error. Rogers State scored one run in the second and three on a three run home run in the fifth.
Kylie Guthier earned her first win in the circle for the Gorillas.
Three Pitt State players had multiple hits in the game. Katy Remy went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and one RBI. McKenzie Rynard was 2-for-2 with two home runs, two runs scored, four RBI and a walk in her first appearance since sitting out for an injury. Alex Perez added a 2-for-3 performance with a double, a run scored and two RBI. Ashton Pratt was only 1-for-2, but walked twice. Nicole Nease's only hit of the game was a two run home run. Lawren McKinney went 1-for-3, but scored two runs. Jordan Bradshaw had two RBI, one on a hit and one on a sacrifice fly.
The second game was more of the same, as the Gorillas scored 15 hits on 15 runs and one Rogers State error. The team put up two runs each in the first, second and fourth innings and added a huge nine-run third.
Emmie Robertson earned the win in the circle as she gave up only two hits over the five innings. She now has 20 wins on the season.
Nearly every Gorilla that made a plate appearance got on base at least once. Freshman Tasha Steele got her first career hit as a Gorilla, a double, in the third inning and added a base hit in the fourth. She also brought home two runs and scored a run of her own. Pratt, Rynard, Avery Beard and Bradshaw each went 2-for-3 in the game and each scored two runs. Cheslyn Mitchell also returned from injury to get a hit in each game, including a two-RBI base hit in game two. Perez added a 2-for-4 performance with three RBI in game two.
The Gorillas will look to finish the regular season strong this weekend as they will host Northeastern State and Central Oklahoma in the final two games of the season. Friday (April 24) against Northeastern State will be the team's annual Melanoma Awareness Day. First pitch for the doubleheader is at 2 p.m. Saturday (April 25) will be Senior Day. The four Gorilla Seniors, Avery Beard, McKenzie Rynard, Devon McCreath and Cheslyn Mitchell will be honored before the game. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
