KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Pitt State volleyball team faced top ranked opponents in No. 6 Wayne State and No. 17 Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon in the Rockhurst Invitational and took two 3-0 losses. The Gorillas lost the first match to Wayne State by scores of 25-16, 25-9, 25-23, before losing to Rockhurst by scores of 25-13, 25-10, 25-18.
Three Pitt State players, Lana DaSilva, Lauren Regier and Taylor Unke, lead the team with six kills a piece against Wayne State. The Gorillas tallied 29 total kills compared to 40 for the Wildcats.
Taylyn Schwartz recorded a double-double with 11 digs and 10 assists. Ashlen Schwartz added 13 digs. The Gorillas tallied four total blocks in the game. Unke provided one solo block and two block assists, while Lexi Fulghum had two block assists.
Rockhurst hit at an impressive .413 clip in the day's nightcap, while holding the Gorillas to a .112 attack percentage. Pitt State had 7.0 team blocks, but the Hawks managed 14.0.
Regier and Fulghum led the Gorilla offense with six kills each. Defensively, Unke and DaSilva each put up four blocks. Regier added three. Ashlen Schwartz recorded a team-high 11 digs.
