PITTSBURG, Kan. – Pittsburg State Athletics announced today that there will be no Pitt Crew activities for the football game against Northwest Missouri on October 17, 2015.
Â
Due to the extra personnel in attendance for the MIAA Television Network game, as well as an expected capacity crowd for this storied rivalry game, Pittsburg State athletics and university administration felt it was best to suspend Pitt Crew activities for this one game. It is anticipated there will be overflow standing room only tickets sold for the south end zone. Combining that crowd with the Pitt Crew creates a situation that includes security and safety concerns for Pitt Crew participants.
Â
University administration wanted to make parents aware of this change as soon as possible and before single game tickets go on sale for that game, to give fans the chance to purchase tickets for their children. Tickets for the Northwest Missouri game go on sale on Monday, October 5. Tickets are $11 for children under 17 in advance or $13 on game day.
Â
"We felt it was best for the safety of our young fans to have them cheer from the stands with their parents for this game," said Marissa Poppe, Pitt State's assistant athletic director for strategic partnerships and community outreach, who oversees the Pitt Crew operations.
Â
"We realize this may be an inconvenience for some, but we hope that these kids will still be able to come to the game with their parents."
Â
The Pitt Crew will still gather for the Homecoming game against Missouri Western on October 3, against Missouri Southern on October 31 and against Central Oklahoma on November 14.
