PITTSBURG — Kyler Kinnamon and Rob Davis combined for 27 points to lead Fort Hays State University to a 72-67 victory over the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team Saturday (Dec. 3).
Kinnamon scored a game-high 14 points and made four free throws in the game's final 44 seconds to help seal the win for the Tigers (5-3, 1-1 MIAA). FHSU overcame a 38 percent shooting effort in the second half (8-21) to hold off a late rally by the Gorillas (1-8, 0-2 MIAA).
R.J. Pair scored a season-high 14 points and Elijah Gaines added 11 for Pitt State, while Creighton Brinker and Brandon Clifford chipped in with nine points apiece. The Gorillas grabbed a 15-4 lead four minutes into the game but trailed the final 32 minutes of the contest thanks to a 38 percent shooting day (21-54). The Gorillas converted just 14 of 25 free throws as well, while the Tigers made 19 of 26 charity shots.
Pitt State will return to action next Thursday (Dec. 8) when the Gorillas travel to St. Charles, Mo., to face Lindenwood Un
