Pitchers' Duel Ends in Win For Gorilla Softball

DURANT, Okla. -- A total of only nine runners reached base as the Pitt State and Henderson State softball teams battled on Saturday (Feb. 6) evening. In the end, Pitt State used timely hitting and took advantage of two Henderson State errors to earn a 2-0 win and improve to 3-0 on the young season.

Pitt State had three hits in the game. They also had two runners reach on errors and earned one walk. Henderson State had two hits and a third batter was hit by a pitch.

Emmie Robertson struck out 12 Reddie batters to improve to 2-0 on the season. Madison Calvert took the loss for Henderson State. She struck out three and walked one. Only one of the two runs she gave up was earned.

Pitt State did not get its first hit until the bottom of the fifth. Alex Perez started the Gorillas with a one-out double. One out later, Catie Cummins hit her in with a base hit for a 1-0 Pitt State lead.

In the seventh, Lawren McKinney reached first on an error by the Reddie firstbaseman. Katy Remy singled through the right side to move McKinney to second. Nicole Nease reached on a fielder's choice that put McKinney out at third, but left Remy safe at second in scoring position. Kylie Guthier reached on an error that allowed Remy to come home for Pitt State's second run of the game.

Henderson State went down in order in the top of the seventh to end the game with a 2-0 Pitt State win.

The Gorillas will wrap up the Southeastern Regional Invitational on Sunday with a 10 a.m. game against host Southeastern Oklahoma and a 12:30 p.m. game against Oklahoma Christian.
