ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The Missouri Western State University baseball team capitalized on two errors to plate seven runs in the decisive eighth inning as the Griffons rallied for a 7-6 victory over Pittsburg State University Thursday (Mar. 10) in the opening game of a three-game series.
Pitt State (5-10, 0-7 MIAA) built a 6-0 lead on MWSU (10-6, 4-3 MIAA) by scoring twice in the first, three times in the third and once in the eighth.
George Brandecker scattered six hits over six strong innings of work, allowing one walk while fanning eight batters. Cole Brecheisen went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead Pitt State's 12-hit attack. Brett Macary and Jacob Boylan both scored twice and collected two hits apiece.
The Gorillas and Griffons will wrap up the series with a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday (Mar. 11).
