Gorillas Set to Face Mules in MIAA Series


PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will travel to Warrensburg, Mo., to face the University of Central Missouri in a three-game series beginning Friday (Mar. 4) at Crane Stadium/Tompkins Field. The Gorillas and Mules will meet in single games Friday at 2 p.m. (CST), Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Pitt State enters the series 5-6 overall and 0-3 in MIAA play. The Gorillas were swept in a three-game series by Emporia State University last weekend in Pittsburg. The Hornets posted wins of 13-7, 22-7 and 20-5 over Pitt State. The Gorillas enter the series batting .343 as a team and scoring 7.8 runs per game. Pitt State pitchers have posted an 11.38 ERA to date.

UCM is 3-6 overall and 2-1 in MIAA action. The Mules took two of three games from Fort Hays State University last weekend at Hays, Kan. UCM has five one-run losses among the six blemishes to its record this season. The Mules enter the series hitting .253 as a team and scoring 6.4 runs per game. UCM has a 4.66 ERA with its hurlers averaging 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings.
