The Gorillas (9-24, 4-20 MIAA) held the Blue Tigers scoreless in the first seven innings of play, but tabbed just one run in the eighth from a fielding error.
Brett Macary and Christian Arnold doubles sparked a 7-0 lead after five complete. The two each nailed a double through the right side, driving in a total of five runs in the fifth inning.Â
Cooper Gardner was granted the win, shutting out the Blue Tigers while on the hill. He allowed three hits and walked two with six strikeouts. Ty Rowe came in as relief and struck out three, giving up the Blue Tigers' lone run in the eighth.
The Gorillas will be back in action on Wednesday (April 10) to kick off a three-game series with Missouri Southern at 6 p.m at Al Ortolani Field. The Gorillas and Lions will play a single on Wednesday, then will go head-to-head in Joplin on April 19 at 6 p.m. The series will wrap up on April 27 in Pittsburg at 6 p.m.
