KEARNEY, Neb. — Sam Falcon scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to help Pittsburg State University to a 10-9 victory over the University of Nebraska-Kearney and a doubleheader split against the Lopers Friday (Apr. 15). UNK scored a 21-11 run-rule victory over the Gorillas in game one Friday.
Pitt State (10-27, 5-23 MIAA) built a 6-0 lead after three innings in the series final against UNK (16-21, 13-15 MIAA), but the Lopers battled back into the contest and eventually pulled even, at 9-9, with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Andrew Vogelbaugh belted his 11th home run of the season in the contest for the Gorillas, while Christian Arnold doubled and drove in three runs.
Tripp Tucker (1-0) got the final two outs of the seventh inning to earn the win, while Drake Hermann earned his first save of the season by getting the final six outs against the Lopers.
In game one Friday, the Lopers overcame an early 4-0 deficit with a 10-run third inning en route to the lopsided victory.
Cooper Karlin homered during a 3-for-4 game while driving in three runs. Cole Brecheisen scored three times during a 3-for-4 performance.
