Robertson Tosses No Hitter in Softball Split at NSU

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- Sophomore pitcher Emmie Robertson tossed a no hitter in a 2-1 game one win over Northeastern State on Friday (April 22) before the Gorillas fell to the RiverHawks 10-3 in game two.

Robertson fanned 15 batters in game one. Two walks, a hit batter and a Pitt State error led to a run scoring in the bottom of the seventh, The no hitter was the second of the seaosn and of her career. She also topped her own single season strikeout record from last season with the 239th strikeout of the season, to the first RiverHawk batter of the game. She now has 254 strikeouts this season and has set the PSU single game, season and career strikeout records. She has a 19-8 record on the year.

The Gorilla offense scored two runs on five hits and an NSU error.

Pitt State scored its first run in the top of the fifth. Myka Hayward drew a lead off walk and moved to second on a Jenna Bolton sacrifice bunt. She scored on Tiara Ewy's base hit to right center.

In the top of the sixth, Ashton Pratt got the Gorillas started by beating out an infield bae hit. She moved to second on a Sierra Hall ground out and to third on an error before scoring on a Nicole Nease sacrifice fly for the 2-0 lead.

Game two was a tight game until the top of the fifth when Northeastern State opened up for eight runs on five hits and five walks to take a 10-3 lead that would eventually be the final score. Morgan Myers took the loss as she was responsible for nine of the runs before Robertson came in in relief. Robertson walked three batters and gave up a run.

Things looked good for the Gorillas early as they were on the board first in the top of the season. Nease led off the inning with a double. Kylie Guthier walked. Nease moved to third on a Hayward fielder's choice that put Guthier out at second. Catie Cummins added the second double of the inning to score Nease for the 1-0 lead. That double was Cummins' 17th of the season and put her in the PSU top five for single season doubles.

Northeastern State used three hits, including a leadoff home run, in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead.

The determined Gorilla team tied the game in the fourth. Jenna Bolton led off with a base hit and Cummins immediately followed with her second hit of the game. With one out, Pratt added another base hit to load the bases. Sierra Hall reached on a fielder's choice that left everyone safe and scored Bolton for the 2-2 tie.

Pitt State took the lead back the following inning. Guthier led off with a walk and Andi Cumbie came in to pinch run for her. Hayward drove a double to left to score Cumbie and put the Gorillas up 3-2.

The bottom of the inning was when things fell apart for the visiting team and Northeastern State had the big inning for the win.

Pitt State will remain in Oklahoma, but travel to Edmond for a 1 p.m. doubleheader with Central Oklahoma on Saturday (April 23).
