MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Northwest Missouri State University softball team held Pittsburg State University's potent offense in check for 16 straight innings Friday (Apr. 8) as the Bearcats blanked the Gorillas twice to sweep an MIAA doubleheader.
NWMSU scored in the bottom of the ninth inning for the lone run of the game in a 1-0 victory in game one and the Bearcats got a run in the second inning and two big insurance runs in the sixth in a 3-0 win in the nightcap. The losses drop Pitt State (33-12, 17-3 MIAA) into a tite atop the conference standings Missouri Western State University (32-10, 17-3 MIAA), while NWMSU (31-9, 15-5 MIAA) pulled closer to the Gorillas and Griffons.
Pitt State will meet MWSU in a 2 p.m. twinbill Saturday (Apr. 8) at Noon at St. Joseph, Mo.
