PITTSBURG — Fresh off a three-game series sweep of the University of Sioux Falls, the Pittsburg State University baseball team will return to action to host the University of Minnesota Duluth in a four-game weekend series Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 18-19).
The Gorillas and Bulldogs will play a doubleheader each day with first pitch set for 1 p.m. (CST) at Al Ortolani Field.
Pitt State is 3-4 on the season, while UMD will make its season debut against the Gorillas. Pitt State posted wins of 21-11, 13-11 and 14-8 against Sioux Falls last weekend at Al Ortolani Field. Junior infielder Dallas Reed was named the MIAA Hitter of the Week for his efforts in the series, batting .615 (8-of-13) with eight runs scored, a double, a triple, two home runs and eight RBIs.
The Bulldogs posted a 39-16 record in 2016, capturing the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference crown and advancing to the NCAA Division II regionals. The Gorillas took three of four games against UMD in Pittsburg last year.
