PITTSBURG — The seventh-ranked Pittsburg State University women's basketball team maintained its one-game lead in the MIAA standings with three regular season games remaining thanks to a 67-52 victory over Northwest Missouri State University Thursday (Feb. 16).
The win helped the Gorillas improve to 22-3 overall and 14-2 in the MIAA. The University of Central Missouri win its second straight game to stay within a game of Pitt State, improving to 20-4 overall and 13-3 in MIAA play.
Madison Northcutt posted a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 15 rebounds against the Bearcats (8-15, 3-13 MIAA). Mikaela Burgess added 19 points and Paige Lungwitz chipped in with 14. The Gorillas outscored Northwest, 21-9, at the free throw line. Pitt State also owned a 37-27 edge in rebounding.
Tanya Meyer scored a game-high 21 points and added a team-leading eight rebounds for the Bearcats. Jasmin Howe added 11 points.
The Gorillas will continue a three-game home stand Saturday when they entertain Missouri Western State University at 1:30 p.m. (CST) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
