FORT SMITH, Ark. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team dropped a pair of games in a split doubleheader Saturday (Feb. 4). The Gorillas fell, 9-2, to Henderson State University and then 8-2 to the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.
The Gorillas (0-4) took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning against HSU (3-0), before the Reddies scored three runs in the sixth and then five more in the seventh to take control. In game two, UAFS (2-1) jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first and tacked on three more runs in the third inning to blow the game open early.
Andrew Vogelbaugh belted a two-run home run for the Gorillas only runs in the top of the sixth inning against the Lions. In the early game, Ethan Schlesener delivered the only run-scoring hit for Pitt State.
The Gorillas will return to action next Saturday (Feb. 11) when they host the University of Sioux Falls in the opening twinbill of a four-game series.
