Gorillas to Host Hillcats Wednesday


PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will continue a seven-game homestand Wednesday (Mar. 8) when the Gorillas host Rogers State University in a non-conference game. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. (CST) at Al Ortolani Field.

The Gorillas are 7-11 on the season. Pitt State dropped two of three games against the University of Central Missouri this past weekend. UCM claimed 7-4 and 7-5 victories over Pitt State, while the Gorillas sandwiched in a 13-6 win over the Mules.

As a team, the Gorillas are batting .311 and scoring 8.0 runs per game. PSU has a 7.57 team ERA. 

Junior second baseman Dallas Reed leads the team with a .449 batting average. He has scored a team-leading 24 runs and belted eight doubles and three home runs while driving in 21 runs. Reed enters Wednesday's action with a 14-game hitting streak. Junior shortstop Colton Pogue also is hitting .393 with six home runs and a team-leading 23 RBIs.

The Hillcats are 12-5 on the season.  RSU has won four straight games, including a 6-3 win over Pitt State at Claremore, Okla., on Mar. 1. As a team, the Hillcats are hitting .307 and scoring 6.6 runs per game. RSU has a 2.41 team ERA.
