PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will close out the regular season with a seven-game road swing that starts Wednesday (Apr. 26) with a match-up against Missouri Southern State University at Joplin, Mo. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. (CDT) at venerable Joe Becker Stadium.
The Gorillas enter Wednesday's action having won eight of their last nine games. Pitt State is 20-23 overall and 14-15 in MIAA play, climbing to eighth place in the MIAA standings. The Gorillas beat Southwest Baptist University, 10-2, Monday (Apr. 24) to take two of three games against the Bearcats.
MSSU is 24-22 overall and 16-16 in MIAA play. The Lions swept a three-game series from Fort Hays State University to climb into seventh place in the MIAA standings.
Pitt State will seek the season sweep of MSSU Wednesday after taking a 9-3 win at Joplin on Apr. 11 and a 13-7 victory in Pittsburg on Apr. 18.
The Gorillas enter Wednesday's action hitting .316 as a team and scoring 7.7 runs per game, while their opponents are batting .295 and scoring 7.2 runs per game. Pitt State's pitchers have a 6.29 team ERA.
The Gorillas have five players hitting .333 or better:Â junior second baseman Dallas Reed (.372), junior catcher/designated hitter Ethan Schlesener (.365), junior shortstop Colton Pogue (.365), junior outfielder Hunter Clanin (.345) and junior outfielder Andrew Vogelbaugh (.333).
Vogelbaugh leads the squad in home runs (12) and RBIs (49), while Reed leads the team in doubles (16) and runs scored (55).
