HAYS, Kan. -- Hunter Clanin hit a pair of home runs and drove in a career-high seven runs to lead the Pittsburg State University baseballl team to an 11-2 win Tuesday (May 2) and a three-game series sweep of Fort Hays State University.
Clanin belted a three-run home run in the top of the first inning to stake the Gorillas (23-24, 17-16 MIAA) to an early lead against the Tigers (10-36, 3-30 MIAA). He added a two-run single in a six-run fifth inning for Pitt State; and he capped his day with a two-run homer with one out in the top of the ninth.
Ethan Vanderpool (2-4) allowed two runs and six hits in six innings of work to earn the victory. Austin Brownell picked up his first save of the year by limiting the Tigers to a pair of hits over the final three innings.
Clanin and Chase Kilgore each scored three times in the contest.
Pitt State climbed into a three-way tie for sixth place (with Central Oklahoma and Missouri Southern) in the MIAA standings with the victory.
