Sooners Down Gorillas, 92-58, in Exhibition Opener Thursday


NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's basketball team broke open a four-point game with an 11-0 run midway through the first half to take control in a 92-58 exhibition game victory over Pittsburg State University Thursday (Nov. 1).

The Gorillas trailed just 20-16 with 10:58 to play in the first half on senior forward Demetrius Levarity's driving layup, but the Sooners held Pitt State scoreless over the next three-and-a-half minutes. OU expanded its lead to 31-16 during the span and never looked back.

Levarity paced the Gorillas in their season-opening contest with 15 points on six of 10 shooting. Freshman guard R.J. Lawrence came off the bench to score 11 points in his PSU debut.

Senior guard Donovan Franklin added 10 points and a team-leading seven rebounds, while senior guard Grant Lozoya chipped in with nine points.

OU got a team-leading 15 points from senior center Jamuni McNeace. Sophomore forward Brady Manek posted a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Senior guard Miles Reynolds also scored in double figures with 11 points.

Pitt State will face a short turnaround time until its next action. The Gorillas will travel to Manhattan, Kan., Friday (Nov. 2) for an exhibition game against Kansas State University. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Bramlage Coliseum.
