Gorillas Salvage Split With Weevils Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTICELLO, ARK. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team jumped ahead late in game two and rode that momentum to a 13-5 victory to salvage a doubleheader split against University of Arkansas-Monticello Saturday (Feb. 3). The Weevils claimed a 11-1 win over the Gorillas in the opener.

Brendan Stanek (1-0) allowed four earned runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings of work to earn the victory in game two. Cody White came in as relief allowing no hits on 1 1/3 innings of work.
The Gorillas jumped on UAM starter Peyton Sullivan (0-1) with four runs on five hits in the first three frames. Colton Pogue had a three RBI triple in the second and Hunter Clanin followed with a two RBI double in the sixth. Joven Afenir went 2-for-2 with two RBIs in the contest.

In game one, the Weevils jumped ahead early in the 3rd inning tacking on runs in each inning and UAM added two final insurance runs in the ninth to claim the win.

Josh Whisler hit a RBI single in the first inning for the Gorillas one run of the game. Cole Brecheisen chipped in with a single in the 5th inning.

Andy Pagnozzi (0-1) took the loss, allowing four earned runs and six hits in 1 1/3 innings of work.
