Gorillas Head to Colorado for Three-Game Series Against CSU-Pueblo


PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will travel to Pueblo, Colo., to begin a three-game series against Colorado State University-Pueblo Thursday and Friday (Feb. 8-9). The Gorillas and Thunderwolves will play a doubleheader Thursday at Noon (CST) and wrap up the series with a Noon game Friday.

The Gorillas bring a 1-2 record into the series. Pitt State opened the season with a three-game series against the University of Arkansas-Monticello Feb. 2-3. The Weevils defeated Pitt State, 8-7, on opening day and the two squads traded wins the next day with UAM taking an 11-1 victory before the Gorillas countered with a 13-5 win.

Senior catcher Josh Whisler paced the Pitt State offense in its opening series. The Owasso, Okla., native hit .545 with a double, a home run and five RBIs. Senior outfielder Hunter Clanin also batted .455 with four runs scored, three doubles and two RBIs.

Senior RHP Cody Whiting (0-0, 9.0 ERA), junior RHP Andy Pagnozzi (0-1, 21.60 ERA) and junior RHP Brendan Stanek (1-0, 6.75 ERA) started the Gorillas' three games in Arkansas against the Weevile.

CSU-Pueblo is 1-1 on the young season. The Thunderwolves split a pair of games against West Texas A&M University Feb. 2-3. The Buffs defeated CSU-P, 9-3, on opening day and the Thunderwolves bounced back with a 12-5 win over WTAMU the next day.
