PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will host Wayne State College in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday (Mar. 6) at Al Ortolani Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. (CST).
The Gorillas are 11-5 on the season. Pitt State has won seven of its last eight games after opening the season with a 4-4 mark. The Gorillas won seven games in a row, including five consecutive MIAA victories to open league play, before dropping a 7-2 decision to Lindenwood University Sunday (Mar. 4).
Pitt State enters Tuesday's action batting .335 as a team and scoring 7.9 runs per game. The Gorillas have a 5.39Â team ERA.
Senior shortstop Colton Pogue leads the squad with a .435 batting average. He has scored 20 runs and driven in 13 more. Senior third baseman Cody White is hitting .358 with six doubles, three home runs and 15 RBIs.
Wayne State split a four-game series at Wichita, Kan., against Newman University last weekend. The Wildcats bring a 2-6 overall record into Tuesday's action. WSC is hitting .289 and scoring 6.6 runs per game. The Wildcats have a 13.16 team ERA.
Pitt State enters Tuesday's home doubleheader seeking the program's 399th and 400th all-time home victories. The Gorillas have posted a 398-251Â record at Al Ortolani Field since the facility opened in 1996.
