MARYVILLE, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team overcame a 3-0 first-inning deficit to post an 8-3 win over Northwest Missouri State University Friday (Apr. 13) in the final contest of a three-game MIAA series.
The Gorillas (27-13, 19-9 MIAA) completed the series sweep of the Bearcats (20-18, 15-9 MIAA) with the win.
Pitt State used a four-run third inning to overcome the deficit. Joven Afenir and Reece Garvie collected three hits apiece to help spark the Gorillas offense.
Brendan Stanek (4-4) overcome a rough start to the game to pitch 7.0 innings, allowing just six Bearcat hits. He walked two and fanned five batters. Nick Brown registered the final six outs for the Gorillas.
