KEARNEY, Neb. — The University of Nebraska-Kearney baseball team scored three runs in the fifth inning and five more in the sixth to erase a 6-0 deficit en route to a 10-7 victory over Pittsburg State University Friday (Apr. 27) at Memorial Field. The Gorillas and Lopers will continue their three-game MIAA series with a 3 p.m. game Saturday.
The loss dropped Pitt State to 28-15 overall and 20-11 in MIAA play. The Gorillas entered Friday's action in fourth place in the MIAA standings but just a game out of first place behind conference co-leaders University of Central Missouri and Northwest Missouri State University. UNK improved to 26-19 overall and 19-12 in the MIAA.
The Gorillas scored single runs in the first and second frames before tacking on four runs in the third to build a 6-0 advantage. Hunter Clanin had three hits to lead Pitt State's offensive attack, while Reece Garvie added a pair of hits.
Cooper Gardner (6-2) took the loss. He allowed three hits without recording an out in the pivotal sixth inning.
