WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team broke open a 1-1 game with a four-run second inning and the Gorillas cruised to a 13-3 victory over Northeastern State University Friday (May 11) at the 2018 MIAA Postseason Tournament.

The Gorillas (33-17) advance in the winners bracket to a 12:30 p.m. (CST) match-up Saturday against the elimination game winner between Emporia State University and Missouri Western State University. The Hornets and Griffons will face off at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Brendan Stanek (6-5) went the distance on the mound for Pitt State against NSU. Stanek limited NSU (28-23) to five hits in the contest.

The Gorillas offense rapped out 13 runs on 12 hits in the contest. Pitt State capitalized on seven walks as well as five NSU errors.

Colton Pogue and Tyson Cushman each collected three hits. Pogue and Dallas Reed scored three runs apiece. Reece Garvie smacked a three-run home run in the sixth inning to give the Gorillas a 9-1 advantage. Joven Afenir went 1-for-2 with two runs scored, drawing four bases on balls.
