Hornets Blank Gorillas, 4-0, to Force Rematch Sunday

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The Emporia State University baseball team posted a six-hit 4-0 shutout against Pittsburg State University Saturday (May 12) in the semifinals of the 2018 MIAA Postseason Tournament to force a rematch between the Gorillas and Hornets Sunday morning.

Pitt State (33-18) and ESU (32-21) will now meet at 9 a.m. (CST) Sunday for the right to advance to the championship game later that day.

On Saturday, Taylor Thompson (5-2) and relievers Layne Downing and Trey Taylor (Sv, 4) combined to hold the high-powered Pitt State offense in check. Thompson scattered five hits over six innings of work and worked around three walks to keep the Gorillas off the scoreboard.
