HAYS, KAN.— The Pittsburg State University volleyball team posted a 3-1 victory over Fort Hays State University Friday (Sept. 21). The Gorillas dispatched the Tigers 25-18, 23-25, 26-24, 25-17.
The win helped Pitt State improve to 14-3 overall and 3-1 in MIAA play, while FHSU fell to 6-10 overall and 0-4 in the MIAA.
Meg Auten led a balanced offensive attack for the Gorillas with 13 kills, while Emily Regier added 11 kills and Lauren Regier with 10. Brianna Richard posted a career-high 45 assists and added 11 digs.
Emily Regier finished the match with six total blocks while Lauren Dunn added a match-high 28 digs.
Pitt State outhit FHSU .179 to .121 and posted 52 kills compared to 48 by the Tigers.
Kayla Vitztum registered a team-leading 11 kills for FHSU.
Pitt State will return to action Saturday (Sept. 22) with a road match against the No. 6 University of Nebraska-Kearney at 3 p.m.
