Pitt State Handles Tabor College, 78-40


PITTSBURG -- Kaylee DaMitz scored a game-high 17 points and Sydnee Crain posted her first career double double to help lead the Pittsburg State University women's basketball team to a 78-40 victory over Tabor College Tuesday (Dec. 31) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.

The Gorillas (6-4) scored the game's first nine points and built a 22-9 first quarter lead en route to the lopsided win over the Blue Jays.

DaMitz made eight of 10 shots from the floor to finish with a game-high 17 points. Athena Alavarado added 16 points -- also on eight of 10 shooting from the floor. Crain scored 11 points and dished out a career best 10 assists. Tristan Gegg also scored in double figures with 13 points.

Pitt State shot 50.7 percent from the field in the contest, making 36 of 71 shots overall. The Gorillas also forced Tabor into 22 team turnovers.

Kasey Rice paced the visiting Blue Jays with 15 points. Tabor made just 37.2 percent of its shots in the game (16-43).

The Gorillas will return to action Saturday (Jan. 4) when they resume MIAA action on the road against the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
