JOPLIN, Mo. — The Missouri Southern State University women's basketball team jumped out to a double-digit second quarter lead and rode that early momentum to a 77-63 home win over Pittsburg State University Tuesday (Feb. 19) at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
The Lady Lions (13-13, 5-11 MIAA) got a game-high 20 points from Chelsey Henry, while Jordan Schoenberger posted a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Chasidee Owens (15) also scored in double figures for MSSU.
The Gorillas (19-6, 11-5 MIAA) shot just 46.2 percent from the field in the game (24-52), including a 12-for-22 outing from free throw line. Maya Williams scored a team-high 15 points for Pitt State. Shelby Lopez (12) and Tristan Gegg (11) scored in double figures for the Gorillas.
MSSU rebounded from a 78-61 road loss to the Gorillas on Saturday as the two teams met for the second time in four days.
Pitt State will return to action Thursday (Feb. 21) when the Gorillas travel to Emporia State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at W.L. White Auditorium.
