PITTSBURG — The Southwest Baptist University baseball team scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning to knot the score and the visiting Bearcats scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning to claim a 7-6 victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Feb. 23) at Al Ortolani Field.
B Hobbs singled home the go-ahead run with one out in the top of the 10th inning for SBU (6-5, 1-1 MIAA). PSU reliever Kory Haught (0-1) issued three walks, before Hobbs singled off the Gorillas' Kyle Petty to put the Bearcats in front.
PSU (6-5, 1-1 MIAA) scored three runs in the second inning, one in the third and two runs in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead against the Bearcats.
Reece Garvie smacked a two-run home run in the fourth inning for the Gorillas. Clint Allen was the only PSU player with multiple hits. He went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
SBU outhit PSU, 15-8, in the game, but the Bearcats stranded 15 baserunners.
The two teams will wrap up the three-game series with a Noon game Sunday (Feb. 24).
