Pitt State Holds Off UNK For 83-75 Road Win Thursday


KEARNEY, Neb. — Grant Lozoya and Donovan Franklin combined for 47 points as the Pittsburg State University men's basketball team held off the University of Nebraska-Kearney for a n 83-75 road win Thursday (Feb. 28).

The Gorillas (16-11, 9-9 MIAA) rushed out to an 18-6 lead against the Lopers (10-17, 5-13 MIAA) to set the tone early. UNK battled back and Pitt State led just 36-34 at halftime. The Lopers took a 68-65 lead with 6:02 to play in the contest, but the Gorillas outscored them, 18-7, down the stretch.

Lozoya scored a game-high 24 points, while adding eight rebounds, eight assists and five steals to his stat line. Franklin finished with 23 points, four rebounds and five assists. Demetrius Levarity also scored in double figures with 11 points, while A.J. Walker added nine points and Christian Edmondson chipped in with eight points.

UNK got 22 points form Morgan Soucie and 11 apiece from Kyle Juhl and Kanon Koster.

Pitt State will wrap up regular season play Saturday (Mar. 2) when the Gorillas face MIAA rival Fort Hays State University at 4 p.m. (CST) at Gross Memorial Coliseum at Hays, Kan.
