EDMOND, Okla. — Caleb Cox delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Pittsburg State University baseball team defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State University, 8-7, Sunday (Feb. 3) at Simmons Field.
Cox delivered a two-run home run to knot the score at 7-7 in the bottom of the seventh and then smacked a two-out, bases-loaded single in the eighth to score pinch runner Blain Ohlmeier with the go-ahead run.
Connor Lungwitz (1-1) recorded the final four outs to earn the win for the Gorillas (1-2). Brendan Stanek allowed six runs in 4 2/3 innings before giving way to relievers Dalton Weaver and Tyler McGrew.
Cox went 2-for-5 with three RBIs to pace the Pitt State offense. Ty Herrenbruck also went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs, while Reece Garvie went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
