PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team swept a pair of games from Colorado State University-Pueblo Saturday (Feb. 9) at Al Ortolani Field in the Gorillas home debut. Pitt State defeated the Thunder Wolves, 6-3 and 2-1.
In game one, starter Brad Kinsey (1-0) limited CSU-P (3-2) to one hit in five innings of work. Ty Herenbruck and Reece Garvie each drove in a pair of runs in the contest. Herenbruck belted his third home run of the young season, while Garvie collected a pair of doubles in the contest.
Alex Achtermann (1-1) allowed just three hits and one run in six innings of work in the nightcap for Pitt State (3-2). He walked one and fanned 11 batters. Kory Haught recorded the final three outs for the save.
Garvie smacked an RBI double to score Tyler Pittman with the tying run with two outs in the sixth inning and John Oliver followed with the game-winning hit.
The two squads will wrap up a three-game series with a final game at Noon Sunday (Feb. 10).
