CONROE, Texas —The Pittsburg State University softball team scored a pair of victories Sunday (Feb. 3) to close out the three-day Arkansas Tech Winter Invite.
The Gorillas claimed a 7-4 victory over Texas A&M International, to open the day then held on for a 5-3 win over Cameron University to complete the day's action.
In game one, Pitt State took an early 5-0 lead after three innings of play and the Gorillas pushed across two more runs in the sixth for a 7-4 win over TAMIU.
Dru Collins went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's to lead the Gorillas' 12-hit attack. Keelah Griffith added a two-run double as part of the Gorillas two-run sixth inning.
Halle Brin (2-1) allowed three runs in four 1/3 innings of work to earn the victory, while Sierra Thompson allowed two hits in two 2/3 innings of relief work.
In game two, Pitt State built a 4-2 lead then held off a comeback bid by CU to preserve the 5-3 win.
Makenzie Goswick paced the Gorillas' seven-hit attack, going 2-for-2 with one run scored. Chloe Holman and Dru Collins also belted two RBI's apiece for Pitt State in the contest.
Shelby Smith (1-2) registered her first victory of the season allowing six hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. Smith collected four strikeouts and only allowed two earned runs. Â
