PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University women's basketball team broke open a tight game in the second quarter en route to a 68-42 victory over the University of Nebraska Kearney Saturday (Feb. 9) at John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court.
The Gorillas (18-5, 10-4 MIAA) turned a six-point lead into a 17-point margin by outscoring the Lopers (13-9, 6-7) in the pivotal second period.
Pitt State limited UNK to 24.2 percent (15-62) from the field in the contest.
Tristan Gegg led three Gorillas in double figures with 13 points. Sydnee Crain added a season-high 12 points, while Athena Alvarado posted a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Kaylee DaMitz also chipped in with nine points.
The Lopers got 11 points from Elisa Backes and 10 points from Shiloh McCool.
