ST. CHARLES, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team scored four runs in the third inning and added four more in the sixth frame to build a big lead en route to a 13-2 victory over Lindenwood University Sunday (Mar. 10) at the Lou Brock Complex.
The Gorillas (9-9, 4-4 MIAA) and the Lions (8-12, 3-5 MIAA) will complete their three-game MIAA series with a 1 p.m. (CDT) game Monday.
Chaz Burgess led the Pitt State offense by going 4-for-5 at the plate with two home runs and five RBIs. Alex Achtermann helped his own cause on the mound by going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. while Clint Allen went 1-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Achtermann (2-3) scattered eight hits over 6.0 innings of work. He walked two batters and registered seven strikeouts. Justin Root, Shamus Kearney and Tyler Clark combined to limit the Lions to three hits over the final 3.0 innings.
