ST. CHARLES, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team broke open a 1-1 game with four runs in the top of the 10th inning to propel the Gorillas to a 5-2 victory over Lindenwood University Monday (Mar. 11) at the Lou Brock Complex.
The extra-inning win helped the Gorillas (10-9, 5-4 MIAA) take two of three games in the series against the Lions (8-13, 3-6 MIAA).
Tyler Pittman started Pitt State's 10th inning with a one-out single. He stole second base, advanced to third to Clint Allen's base hit and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Levi McLaughlin added an RBI double and the Gorillas tacked on an additional two runs after an error extended the inning.
Connor Lungwitz (1-2) allowed just one hit in 3 2/3 innings of relief work to earn the victory. Brendan Stanek posted a quality start, limiting LWU to one earned run on five hits in 5 1/3 innings of work.
The Gorillas will travel to Springdale, Ark., Tuesday (Mar. 12) to face Arkansas Tech University in a 6 p.m. (CDT) game at Arvest Ballpark, the home of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.
