PITTSBURG -- Brad Kinsey tossed a complete-game shutout and the Pittsburg State University offense exploded for 18 hits as the Gorillas defeated Northwest Missouri State University, 10-0 in eight innings, in the series opener Friday (Mar. 15) at Al Ortolani Field.
Kinsey (4-1) scattered seven hits in the contest for Pitt State (11-9, 6-4 MIAA). He walked two and registered four strikeouts against NWMSU (9-11, 5-5 MIAA).
Chaz Burgess led the Gorillas' offensive attack, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Alex Achtermann and Ty Herrenbruck both went 2-for-5 with a double. Achtermann scored two runs and drove in two more, while Herrenbruck delivered three RBIs. All nine Pitt State starters collected one or more hits in the contest.
The Gorillas and Bearcats will resume their three-game MIAA series with a 2 p.m. (CDT) game Saturday (Mar. 16).
