LEBANON, Ill. — One day after splitting a doubleheader against Maryville University, the Pittsburg State University and McKendree University softball teams split a twinbill Wednesday (Mar. 13) at Bearcat Field. The Bearcats claimed an 8-5 victory in game one, before the Gorillas countered with a 10-4 win in the nightcap.

McKendree (13-11) scored three runs in the first and two more in the second inning to take control early in the opener against Pitt State (11-12). Kaity Kukowski went 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs to lead the Gorillas.

In the nightcap, the Gorillas overcame a 3-2 deficit by scoring three runs in the fifth inning and adding two more runs in the sixth and seventh.

Halle Brin (7-4) allowed four runs, three earned, in 4 2/3 innings of work. She walked one and registered four strikeouts. Shelby Smith recorded the final seven outs to earn the save.

Dru Collins led Pitt State's 12-hit offensive attack by going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI's. Kukowski went 3-for-5 day at the plate, while Keelah Griffith drove in three runs for the Gorillas.
