GREAT BEND, Kan. — The Pittsburg State University softball team swept a pair of games from the University of Nebraska-Kearney Sunday (Mar. 17) on the campus of Barton Community College. Pitt State defeated the Lopers, 3-0 and 4-3 (10 innings).
In game one, starter Shelby Smith (6-6) limited UNK (2-12) to four hits in four 1/3 innings of work. Kaity Kukowski and Kala Holder each drove in a run in the contest.
Shelby Smith allowed zero hits and one run in five 1/3 innings of relief work in the nightcap for Pitt State (13-12). She walked one and recorded five strikeouts.
Alicia Lowrey belted a home run during a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Kala Holder scored on a Lopers error in the tenth inning for the game-winning run. Â
Pitt State will return to action Monday (Mar. 18) for an MIAA doubleheader against Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan.
