PITTSBURG — The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team broke open a 1-1 game with a five-run fourth inning and the Bearcats pulled away for a 9-1 win over Pittsburg State University Sunday (Mar. 17) at Al Ortolani Field.
The Bearcats (12-10, 6-6 MIAA) avoid a three-game MIAA series sweep with the win over the Gorillas (12-10, 7-5 MIAA).
NWMSU and Pitt State traded unearned runs in the second inning, before the Bearcats plated five runs in the fourth against the Gorillas' Brendan Stanek (2-1) and reliever Kory Haught. In all, eight pitchers worked in the game for Pitt State.
Tyson Cushman and Alex Achtermann each collected two hits in the contest for Pitt State. The Gorillas posted eight hits in the contest, but Pitt State stranded 14 baserunners in the contest.
