Ichabods Take Series Finale From Gorillas, 4-2

PITTSBURG -- The Washburn University baseball team scored two runs on a two-out throwing error in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and claim a 4-2 victory over Pittsburg State University Saturday (Mar. 2) at Al Ortolani Field.

WU (8-7, 3-3 MIAA) pinch hitter Braden Kirkpatrick hit the ball sharply to second baseman Tyson Cushman. Cushman fielded the ball and threw to first for the apparent third out but his throw was ruled to have pulled first baseman Ty Herrenbruck's foot off the bag and the Ichabods' Peter Schearer and Wyatt Featherston scored on the play.

Pitt State (8-7, 3-3 MIAA) took an early 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Cale Cox scored on a throwing error by WU third baseman Lane Harvey and Chaz Burgess delivered an RBI single in the frame.
