EMPORIA, Kan. -- For the second straight day, the Pittsburg State University softball team split a pair of games at the Emporia State University Classic Friday (Mar. 22) at Trusler Sports Complex.
The Gorillas dropped a 2-0 decision to Minnesota State Mankato University in Friday's first game, before Pitt State bounced back with a 9-4 decision against Sioux Falls University in game two.
In game one, Minnesota State Mankato (14-7) jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead and held the Gorillas to zero hits on the game.
In the nightcap, Pitt State (16-15) overcame a 2-1 deficit by scoring seven runs in the fourth inning and adding a single run in the sixth to push past Sioux Falls (10-11).
Kala Holder led Pitt State's 10-hit attack, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs. Madison Wegner also hit a two-run home run for the Gorillas. Shelby Smith (7-7) earned the win, allowing four earned runs in seven innings of work.
The Gorillas will close out the six-game, three-day tournament with a 10 a.m. game Saturday (Mar. 22) against Concordia St. Paul University, followed by a 12:30 p.m. final game against Wayne State.
