PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will host Newman University in a non-conference game Wednesday (Mar. 6) at Al Ortolani Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. (CST).
The Gorillas are 8-7 on the season, while Newman will bring a 7-5 mark into Wednesday's action. Pitt State dropped two of three games to Washburn University in its last outing last weekend. The Jets dropped two of three games in a weekend series against the University of Arkansas Fort Smith.
As a team, Pitt State is batting .233 and scoring 6.1 runs per game. The Gorillas have a 4.44 team ERA.
Junior outfielder Chaz Burgess leads the Gorillas with a .323 batting average. Senior outfielder/DH Alex Achtermann is batting .273 with two home runs and 11 RBIs, while junior first baseman Ty Herrenbruck is hitting .245 with 13 runs scored, five home runs and 12 RBIs.
