JOPLIN, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University softball team opened MIAA play Friday (Mar. 8) with a doubleheader split against Missouri Southern State University. The Gorillas dropped game one, 10-2, in five innings before bouncing back to run-rule the Lions, 13-4, in six innings in the nightcap.
Pitt State (8-9, 1-1 MIAA) and MSSU (7-6, 1-1 MIAA) will face off again Saturday (Mar. 9) in a non-conference twinbill at the PSU Softball Complex. First pitch is set for Noon (CST).
Kaity Kukowski went 3-for-3 with three runs scored in the Gorillas' game two win against the Lions. Makenzie Goswick doubled and drove in four runs for Pitt State, while Dru Collins went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Alicia Lowrey also went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Shelby Smith (4-3) allowed four runs on nine hits to earn the victory.
